Mickey’s Not So Dry Halloween Party

Halloween on Main Street U.S.A

Our not so dry experience at Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party in 2012. We ended up having a great time despite the rain!

It rained every afternoon of our trip but on the evening we had tickets to attend Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party it decided to RAIN. We got to the Magic Kingdom around 5:00, took some photos on hung out on Main Street for a while, and then headed to Adventureland. We thought we would just sit in Tortuga Tavern for a little while until the rain passed and then head over to get in line to meet Captain Jack Sparrow.

We ended up being trapped at Tortuga Tavern until 8:00 pm. It rained really hard and the lightning and thunder was pretty impressive. The walkways were becoming giant puddles and I really wasn’t interested in wheeling through that. So we stayed in our pirate nook and decided that we weren’t going to let the rain get us down. And we didn’t. We were starving though so Drew braved the rain and went down to Pecos Bill’s to get us dinner.

As we finished our dinner it started to let up so we decided to head out. Since the rain was still coming down some most of the characters weren’t out. We ended up in Storybook Circus because we had heard that Pete’s Silly Sideshow was open. I typically don’t like to use party time doing something we could do any time but I’m glad we did.

We made our way through the first line and met Daisy and Minnie. The exit is through Big Top Souvenirs, which is one of my favorite shops in the Magic Kingdom. We chatted with several Cast Members as we went through and then headed back over to Pete’s to meet Goofy and Donald.

On our second trip through one of the Cast Members asked us if we wanted to see some candy. So we followed him and watched as they were making some chocolate covered marshmallows. We ooh and awwwed as instructed and then were asked if we wanted to make some of our own. It was so much fun!

We were even given chef hats. Drew was a natural and looked professional, mine not so much but it still tasted great! So the moral of the story, slow down and talk with the awesome Cast Members. A magical moment can happen when you least expect it and make a rainy night more bearable.

So much fun!

After we finished our marshmallows we visited the trick or treat area at the Fantasyland Train Station and then took the Alice in Wonderland candy trail to Tomorrowland. It started to rain again so we went to the Town Square Theater to see Mickey and Minnie.

While we were in line we found out that a few villains were also meeting there so we headed to that line next and met Gaston and Lotso. My one complaint about the entire evening was that it was hard to get information about where the characters would be. The Cast Members themselves didn’t know and I am sure were just as frustrated.

As we were leaving the theater they made an announcement that HalloWishes would be going off soon, which I was surprised and happy to hear. While we waited we went to the fire station to get our special Sorcerer’s of the Magic Kingdom cards we noticed the huge line for guest relations. It was all the way out to the Fire Station and was probably the longest wait in the park. I was actually surprised that many people were there.

HalloWishes was still really cool in the rain. The first parade had been canceled and we really weren’t sure if they would be able to do the second one. We went ahead and went to Liberty Square to wait. Luckily the rain held off but there was no Headless Horseman because it was so wet and unsafe. Totally understood that one! And the Cast Members in the parade didn’t dance as much they just walked the route. Understood that too and it ended up being kind of cool because they were able to interact with the crowd a lot more.

After the parade we decided to get in seeing as many characters as we could. We saw Jane and Turk with no wait. Aladdin and Abu were out and were fun to meet. As we were leaving Jasmine and Genie came out so we snapped a photo of the four of them together.

When we went back through Adventureland Tarzan was out with Turk. There was no one in line again and he spent a long time chatting with us about the state of Georgia. Never thought I would hear Tarzan say Go Dogs! (Drew loved that by the way.)

Turk and Tarzan

Since they were unable to put on the Villains Mix and Mingle the villains had been meeting guests at the Tomorrowland Terrace. We just missed the cut off before the parade and were told that they weren’t sure if they would be back out. We headed back over there to check and luckily they were! It was a really cool experience that would have never happened if it wasn’t for the rain.

So a night that could have been really rotten ended up being kinda fun. I might have felt differently if this was our first Halloween party but we had a great time. Sure we missed a lot, were wet, and my plans to finally meet Captain Jack Sparrow were dashed. But we got free treats, met Maleficent and Cruella de Vil, and made some great memories.

Looks like a great time despite the rain. How fun to get to dip the marshmallows and get that awesome Villains photo op! Love the picture of Mickey and Minnie, they wore different Halloween outfits last year when we went.

People always complain about the rain at Disney, but we’ve actually made some great memories in the rain and it looks like you guys have as well.  You just have to make the most of it.

Sounds like you had a great time despite the rain! It rained everyday during our trip in August also but we waited it out and carried on. It’s what you got to do. I was able to spend 2 days by myself to do what I wanted, it was fun, but it was way more fun once my sister joined me. I forget how much candy they said they give away during the halloween party time, something like 20 semi truck trailers full. I mean it is a lot!

I love your attitude about this situation! While those other folks were standing in line to complain at guest relations, you were making the most of the time, meeting characters, making memories and…making your own chocolate-covered marshmallows! (my favorite Disney park candy). Awesome!
