Magical Blogorail – Vintage Disney Characters

Magical Blogorail Blue

Welcome to those of you joining me from Disney Babies Blog and those of you just hopping aboard. I am the 3rd stop on our Magical Blogorail. Today we are taking a look at vintage Disney attractions, shows, memorabilia, etc. I decided to go through some of my old Disney trip photos and share some of the characters I’ve met through the years.

Minnie Mouse 1983

The first character I remember meeting was Minnie Mouse during my family’s first visit in 1983. She’s still one of the characters that I love to meet in the parks.

Practical Pig 1986

My family returned to Walt Disney World in 1986 and I met the Practical Pig. He looks grumpy but I don’t seem too scared. :)

Walt Disney World 1988

When we watched the parade in 1988 there were two things that stuck out to me. First was the Oliver & Company float. I was obsessed with the movie at the time and it was so cool seeing all of the characters. The second was Goofy on a horse because how could it not!

Walt Disney World 1993

In 1993 I was obsessed with another movie, Aladdin. We were able to meet all of the characters in Disney-MGM Studios and watch the parade. It was awesome.

Walt Disney World 1997

I have no idea why Minnie, Goofy, and Pluto were wearing these jackets in 1997 but I love them. If you know please let me know in the comments! I can’t remember if they were part of a show or just hanging out.

Walt Disney World 2001

In 2001 Drew and I met my cousin and her friend at Disney-MGM Studios to hang out for a day during spring break. And look who the met! I have no idea why we didn’t get a photo with them but I am glad I have a photo of her.

Thank you for joining me today. Your next stop on the Magical Blogorail Loop is My Pixie Dust Diary.

Those are wonderful pics here - my first WDW foray was a crowded Christmas in 1991. I was 2 then (but the WDW at the time was way better in terms of entertainment and Characters!)

As for the jackets Minnie, Goofy, and Pluto were wearing in 1997? That's what they wore at DHS (then Disney MGM Studios)! Those were Starter Jackets - they were HUGE as early as when DHS first opened in May 1989, and they, Mickey, Roger Rabbit, Donald, and the chipmunks adopted the style from that time to as late as mid-1999 (I think).

An Oliver & Company float?! How cool! I've never seen a photo of that before.

Piggy and Kermie!  I agree with Mary; they're scary big!  What a score that you caught a photo of the duo.  Horseback Goofy is another score, though I had to do a double take- I wondered if he might be riding backwards!  Oh how I love vintage Disney family photos!!

This is perfect!!  I love the old pictures!  We were also there in 83 and 86.  I remember the same characters!  Perfectly vintage Disney!

I love old character experiences. It was so normal to just run into one instead of it being a planned event. I also love Aladdin. I loved the parade at MGM Studios. Thanks for sharing.

Love your photos! Since my Disney history only goes back to 1998, I enjoy looking at James' pictures from back in the day. The characters have definitely changed over the years! Thanks for sharing these memories

What great memories Melissa!! I didn't know Miss Piggy was ever in the parks, I am sure that is rare and you are lucky to have the picture.

Great pics! I remember my first character interaction was with Winnie the Pooh when I was just 6 years old. He almost smothered me! You never forget those moments!

Thanks for sharing your photos and memories - it's so much fun to see how things have changed, and how much they've stayed the same :)

What great characters you met! I don't even know  Practical Pig - but he sure did look grumpy! It's funny to look at all the silly costumes the Fab 5 has been put into over the years!

Enjoyed looking back at your Disney pictures from your 1st visit :) I too was obsessed with Aladdin and meeting the characters when we visited WDW in 1994 :) Seems like forever ago...

Oh my gosh - what fun looking back through your old Disney pics!  You know, we were there for the first time in 1988 (I was 17), and I remember the parade well too.  That's because I put my one brother up on my shoulders so he could see better, and a few minutes later he announced that there was mustard on his shirt (it wasn't mustard - it was bird poop - and I've been forever in his debt for saving me from that fate!)

Seeing these olds pics of you also makes me wonder if you straighten your hair.  I love those little curls you had!

Wow Melissa, what a great set of pictures!  I've NEVER seen Miss Piggy and Kermit out for photos, so you've got me on that one, that's for sure!  As for the jackets, I'm not sure, but I did a quick Google search and the only thing that comes to mind is something called the "Goofy World of Sports".  The jackets look like something an athlete would wear, but I'm not certain, so I'll call that a guess at best.  Great post, thanks Melissa!
