Magical Blogorail – Fun Interactions at Disney Character Meet and Greets

April 23, 2013

If you have ever stopped by the blog before you’ve probably noticed that Drew and I love meeting characters in the park. We randomly ran into Darth Vader at Hollywood Studios and that sparked both a love of character meet and greets and a mission to meet as many as possible.

At first we just met the character, posed, and went on our way. After a while that got a little boring and we started interacting with them more. I don’t have the most outgoing personality so what we usually do is pretty simple. When we met Belle in Epcot we discussed our love of books and at Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party Drew and Flynn compared smolders. If you don’t want to discuss a part of their film you can come up with a pose. Just look through photos before your trip and you can usually see a few poses that the characters typically use.

Our favorite character to meet is Donald Duck and Drew likes to tease the poor guy. If he’s wearing a Mickey t-shirt he tells Donald that he wore his favorite t-shirt for him. He is usually pretty happy until he realizes who is on Drew’s shirt. I always assure him that I still think that Donald Duck is number one. The best reaction from Donald was on the Disney Dream

The most important part is to just have fun. You can do something easy like crossing your arms like Pocahontas when you meet her but it adds to the experience. We have some really great memories from all of these meet and greets now and I think the characters love knowing that you know their stories.

I’m such an embarrassment to my children (before as youngsters and now as adults). Put me with a character for a photo any time and I’m a little kid again.

Great post, Melissa! So jealous of your Villains photo! You’ve got some great character photos!

What a great post! We have fun interacting with the characters too. Daisy was so cute to Ian last January. She saw a picture of Donald in Ian’s autograph book and got all silly – she drew a heart around his picture. It was so cute!

My funniest character moment was with Donald too. My husband is a huge Donald fan and wore his Donald “chicks dig me” shirt to the Magic Kingdom one day. Donald took him up and down the line of people waiting and pointed at his shirt.

I love funny character interactions! Thanks for sharing!

Our kids love meeting the characters, but we haven’t gotten to do more than them asking the characters is they “remember” them from last time. But I have seen some guests really have a lot of fun and make the character meet and greets an attraction within themselves!
