Tamu Tamu Refreshments at Disney’s Animal Kingdom

For a long time I was kinda disappointed by the vegetarian options available at the quick service locations at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. But lately they’ve been adding some interesting options.

Tamu Tamu Refreshments, located in Africa, recently added a South African Quinoa Salad to the menu that I couldn’t wait to try. It comes with romaine lettuce, feta cheese, tomatoes, cucumbers, chickpeas, and fried tofu. It’s tossed in a lemon vinaigrette and it’s served with a side of pita bread.

It was delicious. I loved the flavor of the vinaigrette, it was light and luckily just the right amount. The tofu was cooked perfectly and all lettuce and tomatoes were both fresh. There actually wasn’t that much quinoa in the salad so if you are not a fan I would still consider giving this salad a try. It was filling but it’s also a great lighter option. It would be perfect on a hot summer day.

My non vegetarian husband decided to give the Slow-roasted Pulled Beef Sandwich a try. It is spicy beef with mint cucumber sauce on a pita. There is also lettuce as well as cucumbers and tomatoes in the sauce. It comes with either house-made chips or apple slices. He went with the chips. He loved it and I think it’s his new favorite meal at the Animal Kingdom. The beef had just the right amount of spice and the flavor matched up great with the mint cucumber sauce. A little kick and something to cool down.

The chips were also great. They were a little different than some of the other house-made chips we’ve tried at the parks. They had a little bit of spice to them and were cut a little thicker I think. I tried one and it was really good.

I think Tamu Tamu Refreshments is going to be our go to quick service spot at the Animal Kingdom. We both really enjoyed our meals and it’s a great spot to take a break and enjoy the park.
