One of our favorite quick service restaurants to visit at Epcot’s World Showcase is Les Halles Boulangerie & Pâtisserie in the France Pavilion. I am in love with this bakery. It is so much easier to navigate since the renovation early 2013. In fact, we love it so much that we once visited twice in one day!
The bakery opens at 9:00 am, before most of the World Showcase is open. It’s the perfect time to visit to avoid crowds. We’ve had breakfast here on several occasions. Most of the regular menu is available so you can choose your favorite pastry to go along with your espresso or get something a little more savory.
One of my favorite items is the bakery’s macaron. It’s raspberry filled with lime cream, raspberry jam, and fresh raspberries. It is delicious! I love desserts that are more tart than sweet and this macaron has the perfect combination. Pictured with the macaron is the Duo au Chocolat which is a dark and white chocolate mousse. It’s Drew’s favorite and is as decadent as it sounds.
The bakery also has a box of macarons. It contains chocolate, raspberry, mixed berries, pistachio and white chocolate, and banana passion macarons. They are smaller than the raspberry version and are perfect for sharing. They are also great to take back to your resort as a snack or to take home. The photo below is of an earlier version. They come in a plastic container now that make them really easy to keep some for later.
Another favorite are the chocolate and vanilla eclairs. But I say why choose when you can have both! The chocolate cream eclair is filled with chocolate cream and is topped with a chocolate glaze. As you can probably guess from the number of times I used the word, it is a chocoholics dream. It’s a very sweet and rich dessert.
The vanilla white chocolate eclair by comparison isn’t nearly as sweet. It is filled with a vanilla cream and then topped with a vanilla glaze. Both of the pastries were soft, flaky, and delicious. I came away loving the chocolate version, Drew liked the vanilla since it wasn’t quite as sweet. But this is one of the few times where no matter which one you choose, you win.
Another one of Drew’s favorites is the Mousse au Chocolat. It’s simple, creamy dessert that has loads of chocolate flavor without being too sweet.
On the savory side, you can’t go wrong the the croissants, a baguette (whole or half), or the cheese plate. One of my favorites is the Tartine Aux Fromages which is country Bread, tomato sauce, swiss, parmesan and goat cheese. It’s delish!
This last dessert was a part of Holidays Around the World in 2013 and I really hope it comes back this year. The Buche de Noel au Chocolat, or chocolate Christmas log, was almost too pretty to eat. Almost. It was a modern interpretation of a classic Christmas log and was decorated with chocolate, cocoa powder, pink sprinkles, and a tiny marzipan mushroom. The cake itself was layers of white and dark chocolate mousse. It was amazing!
