Kill Refurb Marry – Thrill Rides

Kill Refurb Marry

It’s time for another round of Kill Refurb Marry with Mouse on the Mind and This Happy Place Blog! This month we are choosing thrill rides. This one was actually pretty easy for me. I have one that I never go on, one that I wish I could ride more often, and one that I am madly in love with.

Kill – Tower of Terror

Do I love seeing the Hollywood Hotel at the end of Sunset Boulevard? Yes. Do I love the theme of this attraction Yes. But neither of those things make me want to fall straight down in an elevator. I first rode the Tower of Terror when I was in middle school. Wasn’t a fan. I decided to give it one more try when Drew and I visited Hollywood Studios for the first time together in 2001. Hated it. I was so worried about the drop that I couldn’t enjoy anything leading up to it. So if Disney suddenly decided to do away with this particular attraction I really wouldn’t be that upset about it.

Refurb – Space Mountain

Space Mountain

I haven’t been on Space Mountain at Walt Disney World in years. Trying to get down into the ride vehicle is hard for me. But when we were in Disneyland I was able to ride one of my childhood favorites again. They have a great set up where they can move one of the ride vehicles to a separate loading area for wheelchairs. This means you can take your time, there isn’t anyone staring at you, and they have a nifty contraption that helps you transfer down into the ride vehicle. I have no idea if it is even possible but I would love for a change like this to occur at Walt Disney World. I miss the queue’s back ground music.

Marry – Expedition Everest

Expedition Everest

I love everything about Expedition Everest. Well except the Yeti but that is an entirely different post. The attraction itself is gorgeous, especially at night. The queue has so many beautiful details that we skip getting Fastpasses so we can go through the standard queue. The ride vehicles are also well themed and are super easy for me to transfer in and out of. And the ride is fun, and most importantly for me, smooth. I can ride Expedition Everest multiple times and my back never complains.

Make sure to check out what everyone else choose at Mouse on the Mind and let me know what thrill rides you would kill, refurb, and marry in the comments.

What a bummer–I had no idea that Space isn’t accessible! Now I want to kill it even more!!

Could not agree more with all of this!
You and I had the same list except for kill. But ToT was my second choice for kill so we were so close!

I almost picked Everest to marry, but it got edged out by another favorite. Interesting about the Space Mountain differences- that separate loading area seems like a good thing for this ride. The Disneyland version also has side by side seats, correct?

How disappointing that Space Mountain isn’t suitably accessible! Especially since they recently refurbed that ride, it seems like they should have fixed it then. I hope they do soon! Maybe we could get a petition going?
Ha, we chose two of the same rides but for different “actions.” I personally love free falls, so Tower of Terror is heaven for me.
    Great post!

Good work! Like I said before, I totally understand why you would want to kill TOT (even though I decided to marry it!) In terms of the loading dock at Space Mountain – I understand, I really do. It takes time and patience to get guests onto the attraction. Even guests that have no mobility issues have problems. It’s one of many reasons it needs to be refurbed. And I totally agree with your marry choice. It was close second for me!

I love your list and your reasonings!   I would marry Everest if it didn’t make me sick, that’s why I chose to refurb it! 😉
