I am generally not a big fan of buffets but Tusker House is one of the exceptions. We really enjoyed lunch here in 2010 so we decided to give breakfast a try. It is one of the more unique restaurants and Walt Disney World in both theme and the food that is offered. Plus you get to meet some of your favorite characters.
This was the first character meal I had been to in years (1997, yikes!) and the very first one for Drew. Our reservation was before the park opened. It was so nice being in the park without a crowd. It was also a great opportunity to take some photos.
After we checked in we were taken to the front of the restaurant to get our photo taken with Donald. There is a photopass photographer available but you can also ask them to take one with your camera. During your meal they will bring a copy of your photo to your table to purchase. We’re suckers so of course we bought it (it really was a great photo). Once we were done meeting Donald a Cast Member took us inside the restaurant to be seated.
Our server was wonderful. He showed up as soon as we got to our table and made sure we had our fill of Jungle Juice and coffee. He also let us know the characters routine so we could easily meet everyone. We ended up getting our photos taken before we ate but that gave us more time to enjoy our food.
I love the buffet area at Tusker House because it is so open. It is easy for me to maneuver around and get to everything. Some buffets feel so cramped that I don’t even bother going back for seconds, not here!
There are some great and unique options available here. Some of my favorites are the Mealie Cornbread, Vegetable Frittata, Mealie Pap, and the Warm Banana-Cinnamon Pudding. And I can’t remember what the sweet potato dish was called but it was really yummy.
Here is a look at some of the other stations.
There is also an area for kids where the carts are lower so they can see what it is available and even get it themselves. It’s a great option if you have a picky eater in your group.
Overall we really enjoyed our breakfast at Tusker House and it is somewhere that I look forward to visiting again. The food was great, the atmosphere was wonderful, and it was fun hanging out with some of our favorite characters.
