Disney's Art of Animation Resort

Disney’s Art of Animation Resort

We’ve stayed in a wheelchair accessible room at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort twice now with a roll in shower. Our room was  in the Little Mermaid section of the resort. Unlike the other standard rooms at the value resorts, the Little Mermaid rooms have two layouts.

The first is with a king bed. (The comforters in these photos are no longer in the rooms. The bedding will match the room with two double beds.) We spent one night in this room before our Disney Cruise and loved it. I thought the decor was great without being too over the top. The bed was a good height for me to get in and out of it from my wheelchair.  The carpet is not too thick so it was easy to roll around on.

I was expecting the layout to resemble the accessible rooms at Disney’s Pop Century Resort but it was actually very different. There is not as much space when you initially enter the room. There is still plenty of room to move around and get to the bed and bedside table.

I did like the extra space on the opposite side of the bed. One thing that I didn’t like was that there was only the one bedside table. While there was space I could see how it could be in the way if you were using the door for the connecting room. I still missed having a table on my side of the bed.

The dresser was easy to use. There are three drawers to use on the left side and the right side is where you can find the room’s refrigerator. You’ll also find a spot under the television to hook up various electronics.

The closet area only has one shelf but it is easy to get to and use. Since there is a lot of space between the bed and the wall you can use the luggage rack to store a suitcase there if you need too. The iron and ironing board are easily accessible as well. The room’s safe is also located in this area.

Unlike other value resort rooms, the sink and shower/toilet areas are combined. The sink was at a good height and was easy to roll under and use. I could also use the mirror.

The shower was awesome and I would say this is the best roll in shower option at the the value resorts. The details were really cool. It has both a regular and handheld shower head. There was enough room to roll in to the shower bench to transfer and I could then push my wheelchair out and get it easily when I was done. Drainage is much better as well. While I like having the separate vanity and shower area the bathroom is big and easy to use. The features are also a little nicer than the other value resorts.

Next time we stayed in the layout features two double beds. Everything is similar to king room but it’s a little larger. The bathroom has the same layout, the furniture, and closet layout is the same. There is also just one night stand but in this room it is between the two beds.

We loved both of our stays at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort. Both room layouts worked well for us and I wouldn’t mind staying in either again. If you have any questions just leave a comment below.

Did the room with the double beds have a roll in shower as well?

Yes! Both rooms had the roll in shower and same set up in the bathroom.

which building and which rooms have you stayed in at Art of Animation? We have a tub accessible room reserved for October and wanted to request one that had a good view and closest to transportation if you have any recs?? Thanks!

We’ve only stayed in the Little Mermaid section. It is the furtherest from the main part of the resort. If you want to be close to transportation I would suggest staying in the Finding Nemo section and then request a pool or courtyard view.

That pearl lamp in the headboard is a stroke of genius. 🙂
