We visited Disneyland for the first time in September 2013. One of the lands I was look forward to visiting the most was Adventureland. It’s my favorite at the Magic Kingdom and I couldn’t wait to visit the original Tiki Room and have a Dole Whip. It’s still hard for me to say which is better, each one has it’s own set of pros (Tikis!) and cons (congestion). So to figure out who wins this battle lets do some comparisons.
Both entrances have changed since the opening of the park. I know a lot of people miss the arch of the old bridge in the Magic Kingdom but for someone that travels on wheels I appreciate the new flat one. And honestly I do think I like the newer sign better. In Disneyland the entrance is much closer to the hub. It’s almost a toss up, I guess it depends on your taste and how attached you are to one or the other.
I’m just going to say it, hands down Disneyland wins on this one. I love the exterior of the building in the Magic Kingdom better but Disneyland’s version wins in every other category. It is the original after all! The pre-show area is so much cooler with the carved totem poles coming to life and introducing themselves.
The area is much less like a queue so you can stroll around and look at all of the different totems or get sit and enjoy the charm of the area.
It also has it’s own queue for Dole Whips. And even better, you can take them into the show!
But the best part has to be Maynard. We had no idea who he was or how awesome until he began his pre-show spiel. I can describe it in one word, amazing. I feel so lucky that we were able to meet him. He even told us to just stay where we were so we could enjoy the next show.
When it comes to The Jungle Cruise I prefer the Magic Kingdom version. It’s longer and the nostalgia I have for it is just too great to over come. And while I do believe that Disneyland’s version of Pirates of the Caribbean is cooler I like having it in Adventureland. Again it’s probably a nostalgia thing for me but I want my pirates where I expect them to be. 🙂
But when it comes to the little details Disneyland wins again. In South Seas Traders, one of the shops, you can find Shrunken Ned. You give him 50 cents, place your hand on the machine to be read, and he will give you some advice. It’s a fun experience and probably the cheapest souvenir that you will find in the Disney Parks.
So who wins? I guess it depends on where I’m at. If I’m in Disneyland I’ll probably tell you it’s my favorite but I’m going to to the same thing if I’m in the Magic Kingdom. It’s so hard to choose! The areas are both so different and I didn’t even discuss Indiana Jones. I think I need to plan another trip to Disneyland to help me decide. 🙂
