The day of our first runDisney event had finally arrived. We got up at 3:30 am got ready and headed to the Disneyland Hotel. We hadn’t slept much but we were both really excited. We made our way to corral C and waited for our turn to get going.
We stayed toward the back in the beginning but once the crowd thinned out a bit we were able to go at the pace we wanted. Going through both the parks was so much fun even though I really didn’t pay attention to much. I didn’t even realize the lights were on in Cars Land until I looked at our photos. (I must have been in the zone :)) My favorite photo op of the race was meeting Daisy and Clarice on Main Street. We had to wait in line for a little while but it was worth it.
As we got closer to the end though I didn’t want to stop for anything. I think my competitiveness kicked in and I just wanted to cross the finish line. And once we did I was both relived and really proud of myself. This was the first time I had ever tried anything like this and honestly I wasn’t even sure I could. I learned not to doubt myself and we’re already signed up for our another runDisney race.
So what do you do after your first Disney 5K? Eat of course! We headed back to Disney California Adventure to grab breakfast at the Fiddler, Fifer, & Practical Cafe. Drew tried out their signature cinnamon roll (yum!) and I got the Starbucks pumpkin scone because I love them.
After breakfast we spent most of the morning meeting characters. We were able to meet quite a few Frozone, Mr. and Mrs. Incredible, Mike Wazowski, Mickey, and two of my favorites, Chip and Dale.
Chip & Dale on Buena Vista Street
We were also able to fit in a few attractions, Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue! and Soarin’ Over California. I have to say I like the show building and queue for Soarin’ better in DCA. Plus it’s fun to soar over California while you are actually in California. 🙂
Next up, more food! We decided to try out lunch at Flo’s V8 Cafe. It was good but the baked beans were a little weird, at least to me. The weren’t really what this southerner considers baked beans.
But one of the highlights of the day was meeting a Cast Member there named Juan. While I was waiting for Drew to bring the food out our table I was taking photos. Juan stopped and asked if I wanted to be in the photo. Of course I said yes.
On our way out I said goodbye to Juan as we passed him and he stopped us and asked if we wanted a photo together with Flo’s in the background. We couldn’t turn down that offer. Next thing we know it’s turned into a photo shoot as he moves us in front of different icons to take our photo. It was definitely one of those Disney moments that we won’t forget.
We both felt like we needed some dessert so we headed over to the Cozy Cone Motel for some Churro Bites with Cinnamon Spiced Chocolate Sauce and a Red’s Apple Freeze. Yum again!
After our dessert we were both starting to feel pretty tired. The lack of sleep, participating in the 5K, and then running around the park finally caught up with us. So we headed back to the room for a shower and a nap. It was one of the best naps I have ever taken!
I will have the second half of our day up next. It includes a fun encounter with Captain Hook! I have a few more photos from the first part our our day below.
