My absolute favorite resort counter service spot is The Mara at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. The first time we ate there we were just visiting the resort and I fell in love so when we stayed at Jambo House for the first time I was really excited. We have loved everything we have tried there and it is always nice visiting a restaurant that has more than one vegetarian option.
First up my favorite, the Falafel Pita. It’s a warm pita with sun-dried tomato hummus, cucumber, tomato, and mixed greens with mint yogurt sauce. The falafel when I’ve tried it has always been cooked well and the spice of the hummus is balanced well with the cucumber sauce.
You can get it with fries but I recommend going with the couscous. It is served cold with lots of vegetables mixed in.
One of Drew’s favorites is actually a kids meal, the roasted chicken. It comes with fries or couscous, a choice of packaged veggies or fruit (he’s gotten either carrots or grapes), and a drink. The chicken has always had a nice flavor. It’s a nice portion and is great if you don’t want a huge meal.
I also love the vegetable flatbread, olive tapenade topped with four cheese blend, artichoke hearts, roasted red peppers, caramelized onions and arugula.
We usually split this for a quick lunch. It’s a little different from your typical Disney flatbread. I love all of the veggies and the tapenade is yummy.
And most importantly, you can get zebra domes at The Mara. You can find them in the refrigerated section. It’s a nice way to end your meal. We always grab a few to keep in the refrigerator in our room. They are just as good for breakfast, you are on vacation after all.
Even if you aren’t staying at the Animal Kingdom Lodge you should definitely check out The Mara. You can take a break from your Animal Kingdom touring and visit for lunch or head over for an early dinner when the park closes. I promise you won’t be disappointed!
