Accessible Room at Bay Lake Tower

Bay Lake Tower

Bay Lake Tower at Disney’s Contemporary Resort

We stayed at Bay Lake Tower at Disney’s Contemporary Resort for the first time on our recent trip. Loved it. I know it had a lot to do with the fact that we had a Magic Kingdom view but this was one of our best trips and I kinda fell in love with the place. We spent one night in regular one bedroom villa before we moved into an accessible villa with a roll in shower so some of the photos are of our first room.

I hear a lot of people say that the decor isn’t very Disney. I’m not really sure what that means but the decor was very modern. I loved the artwork and the giant chair in the living room. That was my go to spot for afternoon breaks, watching storms roll in, and fireworks viewing.

The living room was larger in the accessible villa so there was more room to move around. The major differences in the kitchen were that the microwave was on the counter not above the stove, I could roll under the sink, and the light switches as well as the disposal switch were under the sink so they were easier to access. I’m not sure if it was because it was an accessible room or not but the refrigerator in our second room had the freezer on the bottom. I don’t have anything that fancy at home so it was fun for a week. 🙂

The dining area has a long bench/booth seating area. I could either use the opposite side or there was a part of the bench that could be moved if I wanted to sit at the end of the table. The table was also easy to move. I found that out when I dropped something and started moving furniture.

The bedroom in the accessible villa was a little smaller but still easy to get around in. I could get to both sides of the bed and there were nightstands on both sides. The bed was also lower in the accessible room. In the photo below just imagine the bed without the brown part and that will give you a good idea of the height.

I typically don’t unpack everything and just live out of my suitcase so I loved that there was a nice spot for it on the furniture. It was the same in both rooms so it was easy to use all of the drawers as well.

The bathroom had a sink that was easy to use as well as a mirror. I didn’t use the bathtub but it did have a grab bar.

The shower was nice. It was bigger than most of the other deluxe resort roll in showers so there was a nice spot for my wheelchair. The bench was great and there was a regular shower head as well as a handheld one.

There is also a second bathroom in the one bedroom villas at Bay Lake Tower. I didn’t use it but it was big enough for me to use if I needed or wanted to.

Bay Lake Tower

This was our first stay at a monorail resort and we loved it. I’m still not sure if I liked it better than the Epcot area resorts but having a Magic Kingdom view was amazing. I hope we get to visit Bay Lake Tower again soon.

We just got back from a stay at BLT and loved it, we had a 2bdrm Lock off on the 10th floor rooms 8012 and 8014 the studio had a roll in shower and a standard tub/shower combo in the bathroom! We had never seen that combo before. The 1bdrm side had a roll in shower in the Master Suite and a standard tub/shower combo in the bathroom off the kitchen. It books as a lake view but you can easily see the Magic Kingdom.

Hi, have you stayed in or viewed a ‘Florida Special Accessible’ room at the Contemporary? I a wheelchair user (T4 para) and wondered if this room type would work for our family of 4.

We were THRILLED to be able to share your room for a few nights!  Once they moved us to the accessible room, the view was just stunning!  I wish we could have stayed longer!
